Why KATRX Exists

KATRX is a personal prescription for myself, and a commitment to living a defragmented life. I seek to understand why so many human systems feel fragmented across healthcare, education, technology, and relationships. Similar patterns of friction, misalignment, and complexity appeared repeatedly. KATRX serves as a personal studio for exploring those patterns and designing more coherent ways for people to learn, connect, and navigate complexity.

"The most interesting problems are rarely isolatedโ€”they emerge where systems, people, and ideas intersect. What appears fragmented often shares a hidden architecture."

Doctoring the System

Global health initiatives and mission work revealed a simple truth: many healthcare challenges are not failures of medicine, but challenges of coordination. Working across diverse clinical environments exposed the complex interplay between access, infrastructure, communication, trust, and resource allocationโ€”reinforcing a systems-first approach to improving care. Having served on ophthalmology missions across Africa, Latin America, and Asia, I witnessed firsthand how cultural differences, logistical constraints, and fragmented systems can shape patient outcomes as profoundly as clinical interventions themselves. These experiences continue to inform KATRX and the exploration of more accessible, coordinated, and human-centered healthcare systems.

The Investigator

My path into healthcare began on the front lines of patient care and evolved through clinical research, healthcare education, and academic medicine. Beyond the science, I became increasingly interested in the systems surrounding patient care and medical education. The journey from community optometry to one of the world's leading ophthalmology institutions shaped both my understanding of healthcare and my fascination with how complex systems learn, adapt, and improve.
